Friday at last!

Friday has finally arrived!

I have a busy couple of days ahead, so I'll leave you with this gorgeous pic before I get completely caught up!

This is seriously one of the most fantastic photos I have ever seen. Taken from the album of this gorgeous wedding and found here. Who knew taxis could be so romantic?

Have a fantastic weekend!

Pinterested?

So Christmas is around the corner and I can feel the holiday spirit starting to stir. How is your  Christmas shopping coming along? Have you put together your wishlist yet?

I don't have much of a wishlist yet, but I have just discovered a site called Pinterest (thank you Wiley Valentine). Have you heard of it? It is a catalogue of lovely bits and pieces... like a virtual pinboard for you to keep track of your favourite things. You must check it out! Although- I have to warn you- this site should come with a disclaimer- stay away if you have deadlines or plans to get any work done- you will be distracted by the hundreds of gorgeous pictures.

Here are a few of my favourites:

(The source links will take you to the Pinterest page- for the original source
go to the Pinterest page and click on the blue link in the top right hand corner above the image)

What gorgeous colours (source)
Cupcake decals! How clever. Almost too pretty to eat! (source)

These clouds are so white and fluffy... they make me a little sleepy (original source)

How delicious and gorgeous is this cake? (source)

What a lovely, colourful rug. I wonder if it would be difficult to make? (source)

Seeing something as fun and fantastic (and South African) as this on Pinterest makes me very happy! (source)

Oh my hat! These shoes are fabulous! (source)

This is so cute! Where can I get one? (source)

Took me a while to figure it out! But very clever. And perfect for Movember. (source)

I love these! Watch out little gingerbread men out there- the ninjas are on the loose! (source)

I could keep going all night... I guess it is time for me to get my own Pinterest account. Watch this space!

Sew Gorgeous!

This might make me sound nerdy... but I have to confess- I am obsessed with embroidery- the sweet embroidery rings, the colourful threads and the fantastic little stitches that can turn thread, beads and fabric into an artistic masterpiece!

I recently discovered that a group of fantastic ladies meet once a week to sew, chat and obsess over pretty stitches. They make pillow covers, quilts and other fabulous things... I think I might have to join them. I know this might make me sound like I have come straight out of the 1800's... but it is really fascinating to see what can be done (by hand - no machines required!).

Ok- you guys decide for yourselves- is it silly and outdated or retro and cool?

How lovely are these embroidered cakes (As seen on Oh Happy Day)

I think the French knots (yellow dots at the bottom of the cake and collection of red, grey and yellow dots on the top of the cake) are super cute. They are also really easy to do- check this tutorial out (below) if you would like to try them yourself.

If cross-stitch is more your thing- then you will LOVE this. And who doesn't love bunting? These cross-stitch kits come with embroidery cloth, hoop, thread, needle and pattern. So fun!

Slipcover Your Life wants you to keep calm and carry on!

Embroidery hoops are also great for displaying pretty fabrics or as wall hangings.

 What a pretty fabric (source)

So sweet (source)

We recently found this table cloth which was hand-stitched by my grandmother about 60 years ago... it still amazes me that this was done completely by hand... it is so incredibly neat and the colours are bold and bright. Beautiful!

Ok- so have I convinced you? Is sewing even a little bit cool? Or am I just a big, boring nerd? What do you think?

Have a lovely week!

We becomes I

As promised, we are back... except- 'we' is now 'I'. V has left Eat My Hat to pursue some of her life goals... but don't worry... I will try and coax her back for some guest posts.

In other news my parents just bought a home in St Helena Bay on the West Coast and they have now joined the unofficial Beach House Owners club... so watch out for loads of beach themed posts and photographs!

Things have been busy and I have been out and about... I grabbed breakfast at the Biscuit Mill the other day. It was GREAT! Have you heard of the Biscuit Mill? It is in Woodstock (Cape Town, South Africa) and if you're in Cape Town you HAVE to go. Saturdays (the Farmer's Market) are great ... but get there early (by 09:00) because it gets busy (very busy!). Watch this space for a post on the Biscuit Mill. In the mean time- check out these rustic frames (I love, love, love them!) from the World of Rustic Frames just down the road from the Biscuit Mill.

Have a lovely week!

We're Back (For a bit)...

So September has come and gone and we have been M.I.A for more than a month! And what a month it has been!

Things have not quietened down just yet, so this is a very brief hello, but we will be back (for-good) around mid-October, and we will bring news, and even a few changes with us!

In the mean time- some links for you to enjoy:

These artworks by Sara Olmos are fantastically adorable (via decor8)
This image is captivating, a little vintage, a little ladylike and a little naughty (via dress, design & decor)
These shorts worn by The Cherry Blossom Girl (Alix) are full of femininity and fabulous gorgeousness. If you haven't already visited Alix's blog, you absolutely HAVE to! You won't be sorry! p.s where can we get a pair of these here in SA?
We are loving braids! And these braids featured on a Cup of Jo (with a how-to by Orchid Grey) are just too lovely
This collection of photographs (titled, 'Contents') is fascinating. Photographer Francois Robert asked friends, family and even random strangers to empty their pockets, bags and purses and let him photograph the contents. Check it out here (via WebUrbanist)

This 'Storm in a Teacup' was taken from Tea for Joy. Check it out here.

What a beautiful Spring day! (We're secretly thrilled that it rained most of the day... we're definitely Winter people). Can't believe we are three quarters through the year and that Summer is on its way. Time for garden parties, evening strolls, ice cream, lazy days on the beach (don't forget the sunscreen!) and holidays! But in the meantime, we're happy to enjoy all things Spring... flowers, flowers, flowers (see the floral inspired loveliness below), babies (remind us again why there are so many babies being born this time of year?), dresses and (hopefully) more rain! What are you looking forward to?

Love the cut of this dress, and the florals, and the pattern... oh and the bow! Aaah, it is all too delicious!

How gorgeous are these bobby pins?

Is there an outfit these shoes would NOT look good with? They're perfect for any outfit. That makes them a good investment... right?

Its a romper. With flowers. In teal. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE! Read more about our romper obsession here.

How cute are these?

Greek Goddess meets Fairy Nymph. This dress is all things wonderful!

We think this ring would match the dress (above) perfectly!

Talking of rings... is this not the most wonderful ring you have ever seen?

In case you need more Spring time wardrobe inspiration, check out our Fashion Flash here.

We also stumbled across these beautiful illustrations in a magnificent children's book on seasons (Title: Seasons, Author and Illustrator: John Burningham). Very sweet and super gorgeous... have a look-

Aren't these pictures brilliant? The perfect ingredients for happy dreaming. And on that note... Sweet, Spring time dreams! Zzzzz...

Crocheting Craftiness Here We Come!

We're loving all things crochet... (doilies, chunky throws and DIY brooches... we even found crocheted pillowcases and a crochet-inspired clock)!

We aren't sure how we have survived this long without owning our own piece of crocheted heaven. Luckily we discovered that @Home have the most gorgeous cloudy grey (one of our favourite colours- it is meant to be!) throw for R399 (check out the catalogue here and see the picture below).

We have also included some fabulous pictures of our new favourite things (all crocheted of course)!

How beautiful is the throw (R399)? We wouldn't mind a few of those suitcases either!

Nothing beats a crisp, white throw for summer (source)

Stacks of happiness! (source)
Aaaah... pastel perfection! And, of course we love the bunting too! (source)
The start of something beautiful. See more pictures here.
Crochet-edged bedlinen- L.O.V.E (and we're not just talking about the gorgeous lettering!) (source)
A stitch in time! (source)
Colourful brooches (source)
More pretty button brooches (how fantastic are these colours?). If you are adventurous or just keen to try these out- find the DIY flower here. (source)
DIY birdie brooch
Ashley Ann's gorgeous table runner! Instructions and how-to here.
Cute mug-warmer (source)
What are your thoughts? Are you in love or is crocheting too old-fashioned/outyds? Watch this space for pictures of our attempts at crocheting! (Might look more like a messy spiderweb... but practise makes perfect right?).
