Keep Calm and Carry On

It is almost Friday... so close your eyes, wish hard enough and when you open your eyes again it might just be the weekend... but in the meantime, just keep calm and carry on...

We better do as they say...
Hey- you don't have to tell us twice ;)
Keep calm and carry on and on and on... we especially like "NOW STOP and HAMMER TIME" can you find it?
Its true
Feeling thirsty?

Tippy Toes Tuesday

Ever heard that children's rhyme about the days of the week? The one that starts like this:

Monday's child is fair of face, Tuesday's child is full of grace...

We're not sure how true the poem is, but we're feeling delicate, floaty and graceful today, so for one day only we are Tuesday's children... and what better way to celebrate all things graceful than to dedicate a whole post to ballet (the clothes, the shoes, the art... even a little décor).

There is something so pretty, floaty, delicate and feminine about ballet-inspired goodies. Think slimfit knits and cardigans, tulle, chiffon, greys, dusty pinks and pastel colours, ballet shoes, tights, tutus and legwarmers... aaaah, it is all just too fabulous!

(Side note: Men beware- this post is about to get very girly!)

The perfect spot for blogging, Stripes, chevrons, pink, red... <3
Ballet in the city. How gorgeous is this picture?
Chunky, charcoal legwarmers. So cute!

Grey cardi, black leotard and dusty pink headband... could this be more "ballet"? Love it!
A bed of ballet shoes. Unusual and pretty at the same time

What do you mean it is Monday again?

We can't believe it is Monday again. What happened to the lazy weekend we were dreaming about all week long? Sighs. One day down and we are already exhausted- but before we get all comfy and snuggled in bed... a few pictures to start the week off...

We want one... or four! How fantastic is this Herman Miller Nelson Coconut Chair?
And this Herman Miller/Eames Rocker. Perfect for any nursery (or a special reading corner)

(More Herman Miller Modern Classics available here)

Oh... I do hope so! (Love this!)
How gorgeous is this basket bag?

Pretty Pictures and Happy Thoughts

After one family emergency, two failed attempts at making the perfect macaroni cheese and a sad farewell, we aren't feeling particularly cheerful...

Our solution... ?

The perfect hideaway for those bad days. Only thing missing: A Do Not Disturb sign :)

Its the Weeeeeekkeeeend BABY!

Its the weekend. No profound blog post required - the fact that it is weekend is good enough :) and it is going to be a busy weekend for us too.

There is lots to be done... cooking, eating, (tea) drinking, dreaming and shopping of course. We will even make a trip out to the airport (have you seen how fantastic the Cape Town International Airport is looking... super stylish, convenient and trendy too, a real travelling-shoppers haven) to say goodbye to one of our other halves.

In the mean time (or until we get started on the cooking, eating, drinking, dreaming and shopping) enjoy some obsessing...

Since most of our weekends revolve around food: eating it, cooking it, shopping for it (and sharing it too... we promise) we had to let you in on our latest obsession - the yuppiechef site. This is Aaaahhh-mazing! Filled with the coolest, prettiest and most useful kitchen stuff out there, this site will keep you busy for hours. And, even more exciting - they have a blog! (boyfriends, if you are reading this - buying your lady something for the kitchen is no longer taboo- as long as it comes from yuppiechef and is wrapped in their new eco-friendly and gorgeous giftwrap... because we don't just love pretty stuff, we love the environment too).

Here are a few of the items we love, love, love...

How can anyone not love this? It is even shaped like a heart.

Doesn't this kettle make you want to boil a whole pot of tea and snuggle with a loved one in front of a roaring fire (with two stylish giant sized mugs and a furry blanket)

How cute and clever are these measuring spoons? And they come in the best colours :)

How genius is this "rack" for the fridge? No more rolling beer bottles.

These are brilliant. Being slightly elevated these utensils prevent mess and are more hygienic.

This little herb-saver jar looks more like a centrepiece than a kitchen utensil. We love it.

And.... we had to save the best for last...

Looking at these makes us think of waking up to the sound of beautiful bird song outside our windows. Make your garden more bird friendly and hang a few of these from trees, bushes and poles outside your home. Made from mouth-blown glass and designed to withstand wind, weather and beating wings this feeder is on our must-buy list for summer.

Ok. It is official- we are in love. Have a happy weekend fellow yuppie chefs. Cook, eat and be merry :)

A-door-able

While browsing some of our favourite blogs we stumbled across this beautiful picture (see below) taken at a wedding in Iceland, which was featured on 100 Layer Cake.

How amazingly gorgeous is that red door...(for more mind blowing magnificence, you have to check out the rest of this wedding!)? Doesn't it make you want to go out and buy a huge can of red paint and just paint your front door... maybe your fence/gate too? This might just be our newest obsession... right up there with ruffles, designer handbags, gorgeous boots, pretty dresses and macaroons.

We had to put together a collection of the cutest red doors we could find and share it with you. What do you think? Seen anything better? Send us the pics :)

How fantastic does that Robin's Egg Blue look with that bright red door? Loving the facebrick steps too.

A little bit of foliage goes a long way, contrasting with the bright red and giving the front of these homes a more earthy, country feel. Almost a bit like arriving at a really vibrant and stylish country manor house.

How hauntingly beautiful is this photo of this cathedral door taken from Trevor Morris Photographics. The door is located near the back of the Christ Church Cathedral in Canada.
