Shoe-wow!

I am inspired! I just stumbled across Mariah Carey's shoe closet during some online browsing (thanks to Khamelah Abrahams-Sadie via Farieda Jacobs Booley)... and wow... It is heavenly! I am definitely one of those girls who has a shoe obsession (watch this space for more shoe craziness) and am super impressed with Ms Carey's 1000-pair shoe collection. Mariah- I want your shoe closet... and a few pairs of your shoes wouldn't hurt either!

What do you think? Over the top or absolutely gorgeous?

Cookie Monster

Today is the first official day of my Christmas/Summer holiday and I will be spending it in the kitchen baking all kinds of (hopefully) yummy cookies for tonight's milk and cookies get together hosted by my gorgeous friend J. I think the whole milk and cookies idea is brilliant - traditional enough, but a lot less stressful than a full roast dinner. Goes well with our snow free (and very warm) Christmas season weather and it is the perfect excuse to get high on sugary things while having fun with great people.

We will each bring a plate of cookies (home-baked or store-bought), arrive wearing our compulsory Christmas hats (no entry into the party without them), listen to Christmas carols and then zone out to a Christmas movie. Sounds perfect to me.

So what am I baking?
I am thinking of keeping it simple with some plain chocolate chip cookies, and if I start to feel adventurous, I might try my hand at some fancy stained glass cookies. Of course I would love to make bakerella inspired treats (thanks to J  for sharing the link with me), but I don't think I am quite there yet... maybe next year... (or the year after).

I have a really awesome choc chip cookie recipe. Can share here if anyone is interested. (pic source)

These stained glass cookies are beautiful... and they can double up as Christmas decorations... bonus!

And now for a whole new 'breed' of cookies....

 Introducing bakerella's cake pops!
Cake pops are beautifully decorated mini cakes on a stick. Sounds simple right? If only...

Snowmen with Oreo hats...

... and pipes - how charming!!

No party is complete without Santa's reindeer...

...and some Christmas trees too of course

Read the basic cake pop tutorial here. This step-by-step guide will show you how to make the basic round cake pops (like the reindeer).

And if bakerella isn't already a goddess in your books, look at these beautiful cookies she made and decorated... (using one cookie cutter to make three very different cookies).

First up we have ice cream cookies. Very cute, but maybe not 'Christmassy' enough for you...

Maybe some Christmas elves then? No?... Still not enough?

What about Santa Claus then? :)

There you have it! Three very different cookies. One cookie cutter. Are you impressed? I know I am!

Ok enough obsessing over cake pops and cookies. Time to get baking! If things go according to plan I will try and post some pictures tomorrow afternoon.

(I have also recently tried the whole 'cake thing'... watch this space for pics).

My Kind of Camping...

I get teased a lot because I don't like camping.

I really don't understand it... when you go on holiday isn't it supposed to be relaxing, rejuvenating and calming? What is relaxing about not having electricity (didn't we enjoy enough electricity free days with the Eskom power cuts)? What is relaxing about having to walk anything from 100m to 500m to a toilet (sometimes at night, sometimes in the freezing cold/rain)? What is relaxing about having to prepare your food on a chopping board that might or might-not be covered in sand or bark, whilst sitting on a plastic chair? What is relaxing about sharing a bathroom space with people you don't know? What is relaxing about sleeping on the ground?

I think you get the picture- I don't like the idea of camping.

Glamping on the other hand... (yes, I know- the word glamping is lame) is something I can do.Give me supersized luxury tents/trailers with queen-size beds, feather down duvets, gas heaters in the winter, lanterns in trees and fairylights, en suite bathrooms with 2-ply toilet paper and electricity so I can read at night/ charge my cell phone/ watch a movie on my laptop/ dry my hair. And then throw in the perfect amount of nature, maybe a lake, some beautiful views, lots of trees... and then... then I will go camping.

Glamping is huge in the U.S, but until now I haven't seen many places in South Africa that do it (properly). Then this morning I get an e-mail- my lovely friend V, in an attempt to get me to enjoy 'the great outdoors', sent me some links to South Africa's version of luxury camping... (well done on finding these V, but don't think I don't see what you're trying to do here... there better be a buffet breakfast involved)!

The first 'camp-site' (and my favourite) is the Old Mac Daddy (part of the Daddy Group that gave birth to Daddy Long Legs and the Grand Daddy). Situated on the slopes of the Elgin Valley, Old Mac Daddy adds a contemporary touch to traditional camping- Airstream Trailer Suites (with themed rooms).

"Part wholesome caravan park, part designer farm lodge, Old Mac Daddy Trailer Hotel is a new chapter in adventure, escapism and pure relaxation."

You can choose one of their themed trailer suites, lakeside suites, the honeymoon trailer or the Daddy's Villa for larger groups. Additional features/facilities include a deck pool, the barn (communal area with fireplace, library, restaurant and bar - Grolsch on tap!), dam and mountain bike trails. Prices range from R475 to R1,750 (per trailer sleeping two- until January 2011) and include a continental breakfast for two.

Stylish and cute... I like it!

If Old Mac Daddy isn't quite your style, and you are looking for something a bit more traditional then you will love the Elgin Hills Luxury Tented Camp. The tents have double/queen sized beds, crisp white linen, gas heaters for chilly nights and an en suite bathroom. There is a lapa on site, with  communal lounge (and DStv) and kitchen (with gas stove). During the day you can hike through the eco-trails that ramble through the stunning estate and for those who prefer to have a drink and soak up their surrounds- you can wander down to the river and enjoy a sundowner cruise on their barge. Prices range from R470 (per person) upwards and are valid until April 2011.

Not everyone is a fan of glamping. What do you think? Old school camping, in sleeping bags with communal bathrooms or luxury tents with all the creature comforts and a bit of nature on the side?

Red Lips

Is there anything sexier than a woman wearing deep red lipstick. And red lips go with anything... the perfect cocktail dress and killer heels (via) or skinny jeans and pumps. Try it out.

Perfectly tousled hair... glowing skin... red lips that wow and an ice cold Coca-Cola...
Sounds like a summer wishlist!

The Bay

I spent the night at my parent's beach house on Saturday... and I have to take my hat off to my mom and dad- they have worked really hard and turned the 'needs lots of TLC' home into a beautiful place to be. Here are a few pictures of the space and surrounds. Will keep posting pictures as they continue to remodel and decorate.

An oar to hang all things beachy... how clever! (see our inspiration here

 Hello decorative fish!

How cute is this nautical Christmas decoration?

 Sea shells, sea shells!
