Ballerina in the City

I came across the Ballerina Project on Pinterest recently and was blown away by how beautiful these images are.

It might be because I am a bit ballet-obsessed at the moment or because I dream of flying away to New York (all the images are taken in and around NYC). The photography is fantastic and the contrast between graceful (and ethereal) beauty and the "harsh" city surrounds give the images a surreal feel.

A bit more about the Ballerina Project:

The Ballerina Project grew from the idea of New York City as a magnet for creativity; each photograph is a collaborative work of dance, fashion design and photography played out against the city's landscape.

You can find them on Twitter, Facebook and Tumblr. They also have a blog.

Shoes Day

I am obsessed with shoes. All kinds of shoes. I'm more likely to be wearing flat, practical, pretty shoes... but every now and then...

Can you spot the gorgeous but possibly not-so-comfortable shoes?

And yes... yes I am a Woolworths fan!

Now for some more wearable shoes...

Picnic pumps
Pink, bows, flowers... So girly.... love it!

So what's your obsession?

Thou Shalt Not Skip Breakfast

I am ashamed. I regularly skip breakfast. I know I shouldn't- but its a time thing (excuses, excuses... I know...) Breakfast (when it does actually happen for me) usually consists of a hot cup of tea (which ends up being really cold by the time I get around to drinking it), and if I have time... a breakfast bar or a slice of toast. Boring- I know.

365 days of breakfast is absolutely delicious! If you like food (like I do) or need some breakfast inspiration (like I do) or if you just love looking at pretty pictures (like I do) then this site is for you. Have a look and enjoy.

*Disclaimer- do not visit this site when hungry- your stomach will not be happy with you!

Cape Town Carnival

The carnival on Long Street was brilliant! The energy was great, the floats were amazing and the costumes were GORGEOUS. It was also very safe (despite a potential stampede towards the end of the parade). It was so lovely to see people of all ages, shapes, colours and sizes coming together to celebrate our beautiful city!

Long Weekend in Cape Town

Its a long weekend woohoo! Things have been a bit chaotic so I am feeling very appreciative of the day off on Monday. What are your plans?

There is a lot happening in Cape Town this weekend... there's K-Day at Val de Vie, the Cape Town Carnival ending with a party in Long Street and the We Love Real Beer Festival at the Biscuit Mill... and of course- with all of this lovely weather, I am sure loads of folks will be spending time on the beach.

Whatever you do decide to do have fun and be safe!

Up and away!

I just saw the most exciting thing... you remember the PIXAR movie, UP? Where Carl meets Ellie, they spend the best days of their life together, Ellie passes away leaving poor Carl on his own and he pursues their dream of visiting Paradise Falls... in a house carried by hundreds and hundreds of balloons?

Remember?

The balloon-transported house from PIXAR's 2009 movie, UP.

Well... the awesome team at Pinterest sent me an e-mail this week telling me about a group of scientists, engineers and balloon pilots who re-created the iconic house from Pixar's UP. Setting a new world record for the largest balloon cluster (and the house flew for more than an hour)!

It is quite something to see... let me show you-

So just how difficult can it be to get a house to fly?

Quite tough... apparently...

Lilac Dreams

I have no idea why, but all of a sudden I am obsessed with (the colour) lilac.

And if I really think about it- I am particularly fond of lilac roses. I'm usually more of a lily/fynbos person... but lately I have been dreaming of lilac roses. And apparently different colour roses symbolise different things. It was pointed out to me that lilac roses symbolise love at first sight, charm, enchantment, captivation and magic. That's a whole lot of lovely stuff right there! Now I love them even more.

Watch this space for more lilac loveliness (and random colour obsessing).

Also- a big thank you to everyone who entered the Work Wise Giveaway. I have really enjoyed reading your comments and will be doing the draw and announcing the winners on Sunday after 12:00. Good luck!

Autumn

Its hard to believe (after our very recent heatwave) that it is officially Autumn. I am definitely not a summer person so I am embracing the change of season with arms wide open. I look forward to cooler days, misty mornings, stormy weather, falling leaves, fireplace laziness, board games, making preserves, snuggling under a dozen blankets, hot chocolate, autumn picnics and doing nothing!
